Cancellation Policy for all Points Unknown Experiences and Lodging

Cancellation is defined as:
1) Any change to your confirmed stay/trip, date or time
2) Removal of one or more people from your group’s reservation
3) Complete termination of your confirmed stay/trip reservation for all participants.

Your receipt of our emailed Points Unknown reservation confirmation, and the associated cancellation policy included, constitute a binding agreement. You are “pre-purchasing” a specific number of spots on a specific date and time or are reserving lodging and we are committing to holding those spots for you on that specific date and time and providing you with a quality lodging, dog sledding or paddling experience. If, FOR ANY REASON, you must make changes to or cancel your reservation, please understand that you are still responsible to pay at minimum a $100 service fee up to the full cost of each person’s reserved spot that is being canceled, depending on the date of cancellation relative to the date of your confirmed trip/stay reservation.

By providing your credit card, or making payment in full, at the time of booking, you acknowledge and accept our Cancellation Policy’s terms below:

If you cancel your confirmed experience or stay reservation FOR ANY REASON...

  • All reservations are fully refundable until October 1st, for December – March dog sledding experiences and stays
  • Reservations, minus a $100 service charge, are refundable after October 1st and until 60 days before your stay/trip
  • Between 14-59 days of your stay/trip, reservations are nonrefundable but are transferable to another available date, either in the current season or the next. They can also be transferred to a completely different season for a different stay or experience
  • Within 14 days of your stay/trip, reservations are nonrefundable and you will be charged for the entire experience/stay
  • Weather policy – refunds are not provided for cold or inclement weather

If we, at Points Unknown, must cancel your reservations for any unforeseen reason, we will issue a full refund if paid in full, or will transfer your payment to a future date, whichever you prefer. If not paid in full but a credit card has been provided, we will not retain a service charge and your credit card will not be charged.

Note: Points Unknown Gift Certificates are treated like currency when being used to pay for any Points Unknown experience or stay and are subject to forfeiture or reduction in value in the event of a trip cancellation.

Cancellation Insurance

If you’re concerned that your trip plans may be subject to change, we strongly recommend you purchase trip cancellation insurance. It will reimburse you for any non-refundable trip or transport expenses you’ve incurred in the event an incident or illness (involving you, a family member, business partner or traveling companion) or job loss requires you to cancel your trip. It’s reasonably inexpensive (about 10% of your trip cost), and it provides some medical expense coverage. We recommend you protect your adventure investment.

“Why is your cancellation policy so strict?”

Points Unknown is a very small lifestyle business, providing intimate, educational, and hands-on experiences. We have a kennel of sled dogs that require proper care, exercise, enrichment, and stimulation every single day, year ‘round. Points Unknown was created out of a love and respect for these dogs and a deep desire to share them with others. We support our dogs, our minimal staff, and ourselves on our outdoor experience reservations and our Guest Suite and Tiny Cabin stays. For dog sledding, our winter season is very short and, in a matter of sometimes 60-90 days, we must earn enough to support the dogs for the entire year. This income is also a huge chunk of what sustains the human component for much of the year. We rely on everything we offer here at Points Unknown to sustain us all for the entire year which includes not only dog sledding but our unique lodging reservations and our Mindful Paddle DAY trips into the BWCA. We are committing to you by holding your reserved spots and turning away others who may want to book at the very same time. Being a very small business, we cannot absorb cancellations like bigger companies
